James is the eleventh Earl of Burford, who recently inherited the title from his father, the Duke of St. Albans. The first Earl was the illegitimate son of King Charles II and Nell Gwyn, who often visited the town to attend horse racing.

The Duke and Duchess also attended the event, organised by Bert Clough, Secretary to the Burford Society, and presided over by the town mayor, Councillor Karl Morris. Burford Society chairman Stephen Cooper concluded this historic event by proposing the vote of thanks.
