Annual Lunch

About fifty members attended the Society’s annual lunch in October. Our speaker was Sir Christopher Ball, former Warden of Keble College, Oxford and then first Chancellor of the University of Derby.

Since retirement Christopher has practised what he has called “responsible ageing”. He co-founded the Oxford Longevity Project “to empower you with the knowledge and tools you need for a healthier, longer life”. At 72, he achieved a world long-distance running record: completing ten sponsored marathons in ten days, raising hundreds of thousands of pounds for charity.

He told Society members that nine out of ten life chances depend on lifestyle and mindset and that we need to avoid a toxic culture in a toxic environment. Aged ninety, he practices what he preaches, avoiding stress, undertaking regular exercise, having a vegan diet and cherishing loved ones. His aim is to live until 111 (which incidentally is the age of the world’s oldest man). So, we look forward to inviting Christopher to our annual lunch in 2046!
